A home for Cricket: Will you open your heart?

Jan 29, 2016 | Lifestyles

She’s black and white and sweet as a button. Her name is Cricket and she’s looking for a home to be loved in.

“She loves to cuddle on the couch and give kisses,” said Angela Cadwalader, volunteer at SPCA of Niagara. “She doesn’t really play with toys, but she will sit there and let you pet her. Just a wonderful dog.”

Cadwalader has been a volunteer at the SPCA of Niagara for the past three years. Her love for dogs is what drew her to volunteering and she says she gets back way more than she gives.

“You can’t be in a bad mood when you are around these dogs,” she said. “They come in so scared and nervous and then everyone works with them and sees them go to a good home.”

Cadwalader and the other volunteers have been working with Cricket, a sweetheart that you just can’t help but love. Cricket is a very active three-year-old dog. She loves to go for runs and she loves to play fetch.

“When she’s running she doesn’t stop to sniff, she just runs, so I think she would make a really good running partner,” said Cadwalader.

Cricket has been at the SPCA since September. Since she is so sweet, it’s a wonder to all the volunteers as to why she hasn’t been adopted yet. She does jump and bark in her kennel, but that’s only because she’s active and doesn’t like being cooped up in a small space. Cricket knows how to sit and lay down and she is currently working on “paw.”

“I just want to make sure that people take her out of her kennel and see her because she is very sweet and you can’t get a good idea of her in there,” said Cadwalader.

Cricket is good with kids and was very friendly to the SPCA’s junior volunteers. She definitely needs to be in a home with someone who will exercise her every day. She gets along with other dogs, but a meet and greet with another dog would be required first before adoption. She cannot live with a cat. The adoption fee for Cricket is $110 and includes spay, microchip, up-to-date shots, and one free vet visit. To learn more about adopting sweet Cricket, please call the SPCA of Niagara at 731-4368.
