The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Buffalo and Erie County residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sept. 26 at Buffalo’s Outer Harbor.
“This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s. With new treatments and proven lifestyle habits that support brain health, there is real hope,” said Adam Kessler, co-chair of this year’s Walk in Buffalo. “Together, we can build a brain‑healthy future and help end this disease. We invite everyone to join us by forming a team to raise awareness and funds for families facing Alzheimer’s today.” Kessler lost his mother to the disease in 2022.
The Walk’s co-chair is Adrian Forzani. His wife, Carole, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in August 2016 and passed away six years later. The Forzani Walk team, known as “Carole’s Dancing Cheetahs,” has raised more than $50,000 since 2022 in her honor and continues to be one of the top fundraisers this year.
On Walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies solidarity in the fight against the disease. During the ceremony, walkers carry flowers of various colors, each color representing their personal connection to the disease.
Anyone interested in participating in this year’s Walk can visit act.alz.org/Buffalo to register. The Walk will be held at the Outer Harbor’s Terminal B. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m., with opening ceremonies at 11 a.m. and the Walk commencing at 11:15 a.m.
