The Boston Lions Club, a local service organization serving the Boston, N.Y. area, had a golf tournament fundraiser planned at Holland Hills Country Club that was postponed due to rain. So they moved the event to its rain date, which was yet again cancelled due to unfavorable weather conditions. And now the organization’s hard-working volunteers find themselves in possession of 30-plus gift baskets that were going to be raffled off at the golf outing.
As a result, the Boston Lions will team up with the Drifters Car Club to hold their basket raffle during the car club’s annual Trunk or Treat event from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Watermark Wesleyan Church, 4999 McKinley Parkway, Hamburg.
“The Drifters and the church were very gracious upon hearing my plea for assistance,” said Tom Herrmann of the Boston Lions Club. “We will be drawing the winning tickets at 3 p.m. and winners need not be present. Funds raised from the basket auction will benefit our annual Christmas project which provides Boston area families in need with a complete Christmas dinner. We also provide Christmas gifts from Santa for any children in the families we assist.”
The Trunk of Treat event will feature plenty of candy for all young attendees. Local Scouts will have delicious snacks available for purchase, and a 50/50 raffle will be held to support the Veterans Christmas Party at the VA.
Best of all, the event on Oct. 2 will take place rain or shine!
The Boston Lions Club supports Boston residents through a loan closet (medical equipment, walkers, canes, wheelchairs, hospital beds, etc.), annual student scholarships and by helping those in need of assistance in the community. New members are always welcome, and you can follow the organization of Facebook for frequent updates.
