Bread of Life Outreach Center is catering to the needs of the community this holiday season

Dec 11, 2019 | Events

The countdown to the holidays is on, and Bread of Life Outreach (BOLO) Center in Colden has never been busier! Following is a snapshot of what’s happened at BOLO the last few weeks and what’s coming in the busy days ahead.

BOLO’s Winter Warm Up program provided coats, boots, snow pants, hats, scarves and mittens to 50-plus kids, while the fixings for Thanksgiving meals — plus turkeys — were sent home to BOLO’s Food Pantry members. A huge thank you to everyone who helped with these important community events!

The Colden Community Thanksgiving Service was a joyful evening of giving thanks to God! Thank you to all who helped bring the community together and make it a memorable experience.

Bread of Life’s Giving Trees in five local churches assure that all BOLO Food Pantry members will have a Christmas gift for each family member. BOLO volunteers are busy sorting and readying the gifts, as well as a Christmas meal. This is quite an undertaking so an enormous thank you goes out everyone involved.

Children and Christmas go hand in hand, so BOLO is working hard to help make this time magical for children of its members who will have a direct link to let Santa know their Christmas wishes! Santa’s Mailbox is located in the BOLO lobby, and Santa will answer those letters (parents, be sure there’s an address included). Additionally, children and their parents can enjoy a fun evening with “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas!” on Friday, Dec. 13 at 6:45 p.m. Mrs. Claus is taking time out of her busy schedule and making a special trip to BOLO to read the book, followed by a showing of the movie and popcorn and hot chocolate for kids 12 and under accompanied by an adult. Admission is free!

BOLO’s popular indoor Winter Market continues on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests will find their favorite farmers’ market vendors featuring products such as maple syrup, honey, eggs, goats milk products, baked goods plus fine local artisans with jewelry, wood treasures, crafts, natural products and much more! It’s a great place to get your Christmas shopping done.

Love the thrill of an auction? BOLO’s silent auction continues until 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19. Stop in and bid on a Hot Pot, Keurig coffee maker, artwork and jewelry all displayed on a beautiful vintage table in BOLO’s lobby … for yourself or to give as a gift! All proceeds will support Bread of Life programs.

Located at 8745 Supervisor Ave. in Colden, Bread of Life Outreach serves the towns of Aurora, Boston, Colden, Concord and Holland, and is a Christian ecumenical ministry of love and compassion which recognizes the dignity of all.
