May 30, 2025 | Events

The Birthday Bash is part of a year-long celebration featuring special events and experiences.

The Buffalo Zoo is thrilled to announce its 150th Birthday Bash, presented by Wegmans, taking place this Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This historic celebration invites the community to celebrate 150 years of wildlife wonder with a day filled with animals, keeper talks, free rides, birthday treats, family-friendly activities and more.

In honor of the Zoo’s founding year, 1875, admission for the day will be offered at a special rate of $18.75. The Zoo will also be offering $10 off memberships from Friday to Sunday. Guests can purchase tickets and memberships online or at the gate to join in the festivities. As a sweet bonus, the first 700 guests who attend the celebration will receive a complimentary slice of birthday cake, generously provided by Wegmans (while supplies last).

“Reaching our 150th anniversary is more than a celebration, it’s a testament to the enduring importance of zoos and the vital role the Buffalo Zoo has played in our Western New York community for generations,” said Lisa Smith, President and CEO of the Buffalo Zoo. “For a century and a half, the Buffalo Zoo has been more than just a place to see animals. We have been and continue to be a center for conservation, education and inspiration. We ignite curiosity, foster empathy for wildlife, and empower people of all ages to make lasting memories. At the heart of our mission, we create meaningful connections between people and animals, and advance the care and protection of wildlife both locally and globally. This milestone is a moment to honor our rich history, but even more, it’s a reaffirmation of our commitment to the future — one where the Buffalo Zoo continues to lead in animal care and welfare, environmental education and conservation. We’re deeply thankful for the support of our community and incredible partners like Wegmans who help us bring this vision to life. We can’t wait to welcome guests this Saturday to celebrate 150 years of wonder, learning and impact right here at the Buffalo Zoo.”

“Wegmans proudly supports the Buffalo Zoo in its mission to build community connections and create unforgettable experiences for everyone who visits,” said Michele Mehaffy, Wegmans Public & Community Relations Manager, Buffalo Division. “We’re thrilled to celebrate the 150th birthday of this iconic institution and cannot wait to celebrate with the WNY community.”

In addition to the day’s festivities, guests can enjoy the return of the Zoo’s popular dog show, “Canine Champions for Conservation,” featuring incredible canine agility and talent that’s sure to wow audiences of all ages. Visitors can also admire a stunning animal-themed sand sculpture by award-winning sculptor Eric Jones, on display throughout the event.

The Birthday Bash is part of a year-long celebration featuring special events and experiences designed to engage and delight visitors of all ages. Upcoming events include “Wines in the Wild” on June 18, “Art Gone Wild” on July 26, and the return of Zoomagination on July 30.
