Commentary: We can make all vehicles safer for just one dollar

In our world of so many wonderful new advancements in providing accident avoidance systems to motor vehicles, it may seem hard to believe that making all vehicles safer for just $1 per application is now possible. Most importantly, it is being accomplished as you read this article with actual applications to all vehicles, since it is universal in application, and can be applied by the vehicle owner or vehicle manufacturer, using no tools, in just seconds.

What is it? The invention title (U.S. Patent No. 9,308,859) describes exactly the location of this invention on the interior of a vehicle door and what it is. The invention title is Motor Vehicle Door Having Highly Reflective Luminant Component on Lower Interior Edge.

How do you apply it? You open the vehicle door and clean off the interior area on the lower interior edge of the door. Then, remove the transfer paper on the highly reflective luminant component to expose the adhesive, and simply stick it on to the lower interior edge of the vehicle door below the interior door panel.

How does it work to make all vehicles safer?

1. When the vehicle door is opened, the entire lower edge of the vehicle door is automatically illuminated by another vehicle’s headlights to allow the opened door to be seen at night, even when someone stands in front of the opened vehicle door.

2. All of us have opened a vehicle door at night with traffic passing by. The issue is that many times, vehicle drivers can not see your opened vehicle door because of having no reflector or light on the interior side of the vehicle door or because the driver has exited the vehicle and is standing in front of the light or reflector, blocking the opened vehicle door from being seen. This safety advancement can only be partially blocked while still allowing upwards of 70 percent of it to seen from over 1,000 feet away by another vehicle driver’s headlights. This occurs automatically and at the speed of light to provide a visual warning that a vehicle door has been opened.

Why isn’t this advancement being presented to the United States Congress to make it become a new federal motor vehicle safety standard? Well, we hope that it will since it is that effective and, most importantly, universal in application for all vehicles having opening doors projecting outward from the motor vehicle.

This advancement is currently available for license to all vehicle manufacturers for immediate application to all vehicles.
