CrossFit event to benefit Hope House Shelter

Jun 23, 2016 | Events

CrossFit Nickel City (CFNC), 247 Virginia St., Buffalo, is hosting an in-house individual CrossFit competition at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 16, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit Hope House Shelter for Women & Children.

The Matt Urban Hope Center is a community-focused agency based on the East Side of Buffalo. Its mission is to revitalize neighborhoods, serve families and change lives by offering a full array of services and support to the community. This is accomplished through job training, housing assistance, financial planning and more. Each week over 300 people are assisted through the Center and over 250 families are served through the Hope House emergency shelter. Last year the organization helped 110 street homeless individuals secure housing and provided 88 permanent supportive housing units to the chronically homeless.

Unfortunately, today’s tough economic conditions make it difficult for The Hope Center and Hope House to continue to meet those needs without help from people in the community. That is why they are joining forces with CrossFit Nickel City to host a competition-style event where CFNC members will contribute $25 in order to participate in the workout. All proceeds will benefit The Matt Urban Hope House and Hope Center. The event will consist of different workouts of the day (WODs) that will eventually lead to a final level where people will compete for prizes. Volunteer opportunities are available for those who do not want to participate in the event but still want to support the cause.

During this event, volunteers will also work towards gathering donations such as clothes, toiletries, toys, household goods, etc. Additionally, raffles tickets will be sold at the event for baskets that will contain prizes generously donated by community members.

Come ready for an awesome workout where your hard work and support will help those in need in our community! For more information, please contact Stephanie Meji at sm****@ur******.org.
