Dog Ears Bookstore & Café, located at 688 Abbott Road in Buffalo, will host author Merry Stuczynski for a book-signing event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19.
Stuczynski is a lifelong Western New York resident whose imagination has been shaping the world of Velvolyth since childhood. After decades of developing characters, cultures and the distant future Earth, she completed her debut novel in her later years — fulfilling a dream she carried throughout her life.
Deeply connected to Buffalo’s creative community, Stuczynski collaborated with local artist Richard Christian for the cover art and Buffalo actress Airy Nikohl for the book’s main character imagery. Her husband, Ken Stuczynski, is the publisher of Velvolyth via the Amorphous Publishing Guild of Buffalo, making the project a true family and hometown endeavor.
Velvolyth is a richly imagined epic born from decades of world‑building. Set on the backwater planet Sunderloc, the story follows the tense intersection of colonizers, native humans and the hidden magical race known as the Aldevar. When the legendary Velvolyth – enchanted dragon‑bone flutes of ancient lore – resurface, a race begins that will determine the fate of the planet.
This novel blends deep lore, political tension, magical realism and character‑driven storytelling — ideal for readers who enjoy immersive fantasy worlds and multi‑layered narratives.
