Mary Ann Siuta Voorhees will visit Dog Ears Bookstore & Café from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, to sign copies of her book The Sattler’s Diary. Dog Ears Bookstore is located at 688 Abbott Road in South Buffalo.
The Sattler’s Diary is the story of the Sattler family and their legendary store, lovingly known as 998! This book will give you a comforting good-hearted walk down to 998 Broadway. It includes an array of photographs and local history, as well as hundreds of memories and stories from the family, employees and customers of Sattler’s. This book will transport you back to the day when there were shoe and dress wars, weddings in the store window, celebrity visits, Christmas parades on Broadway, “Symphony 998,” Whiteouts for Victory, Lettuce Auction for Bataan, The Golden Girl, Teen Town and the Mighty Bargain Airlift! This book is a circus of fun with a sprinkling of local history. It will make your heart smile!
Mary Ann Siuta Voorhees is a lifelong Buffalo resident, married with four children and host mother to 52 international exchange students through Youth For Understanding International Exchange and the Buffalo Dortmund Sister City program. She is a Secular Franciscan who has been involved with working for the poor though local food pantries and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul most of her life. A devoted local history buff who has been involved with genealogy and has benefitted greatly from being a member of the Polish Genealogical Society of New York State, she is also a board member and an officer of the Niagara Frontier Relic Hunters Association, Inc.
