Elmwood Village Farmers Market lists July 30 events

Jul 25, 2016 | Lifestyles

The popular Elmwood Village Farmers Market, featuring nearly 40 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local produce and products, continues on Saturday, July 30. Hours at the open-air market, a program of the Elmwood Village Association, are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine, through November.

Field & Fork Network’s “Double Up Food Bucks” program has returned for its third season and will be available at the market through the end of October. The program provides low-income individuals who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits with a $1 for $1 match, up to $20, to purchase fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. Please stop at the Elmwood Village Association tent during market hours for more information.

The Food Bank of Western New York’s “Just Say Yes to Fruits and Vegetables!” program, a federally funded SNAP-Ed program available through New York State, has returned to the market for its second season. The goal of this obesity prevention nutrition education initiative is to promote fruit and vegetable consumption. A Registered Dietitian will be present at the market to conduct nutrition education workshops with the public and provide nutritious recipes involving fruits and vegetables for participants to sample. The weekly recipes will utilize local seasonal produce and give participants “health bucks” which can be exchanged for produce from farmers at the market. The program is free and open to any customers of the Elmwood Village Farmers Market and will be offered through Sept. 30 (with the exception of July 30, Aug. 27 and Sept. 24).

The Infringement Festival will provide the entertainment on July 30, including RussianhandsandRomanfingers from 9:30 to 11 a.m., The Seasides from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Kidfringement from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Community groups hosting informational tables at the market this Saturday will include Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, YourCare Health Plan and Workers’ Food Cooperative.
