“Two Peas In a Pod,” an exhibit featuring the work of mother and daughter artists Sharon and Lauren Fratantonio, opens Friday, April 8, at Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery, 1168 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca, with an opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. The artwork will include Sharon’s funky doodle drawings and pottery and Lauren’s colorful clay fungi creations and incredible drawings.
Career Development for Artists with Gerald Mead will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 12. A noted artist, independent curator and art collector, Mead will discuss strategies for getting broader exposure for you and your artwork through exhibition opportunities, networking and promotion. The cost for this class is $20.
Colored Pencil Class with artist Deborah Richter is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19 and 26, and May 3 and 10. Richter will assist you in the chosen work you have decided to create, whether it’s a landscape, still life, portrait, etc. Please bring Prisma Color Pencils, a pencil sharpener, photos with strong light and shadows, and any scrap mat board you may have. The cost is $80, or $70 for gallery members.
The popular Wine, Women & Art with artist Andrea Oswald will be held on Thursday, April 28, May 12 and May 26. Guests will create two beautiful wine glasses, sip wine and enjoy tasty appetizers. From 7 to 9 p.m Friday, May 6, Eden artist John Merlino will unveil his solo exhibit, “Universal Meditations.” “I am constantly searching for diverse subject matter in relationship to both spiritual and organic form, rendering these onto a two dimensional surface, a never-ending series of projects,” said Merlino, who enjoys working in collage, drybrush-watercolor and oil.
Make your own ceramic ornament with the Sgraffito technique, with Sara Goldhawk of Goldhawk Pottery, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 11. Sgraffito is defined as “a form of decoration made by scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of a contrasting color.” Similar to working on scratch board, you’ll make a black-and-white piece as you will be scratching black slip from white clay. The cost is $45, and additional details can be found on the gallery’s website.
A book signing and exhibit with artist, author and photographer Wendi Essrow will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14. Come and meet this talented woman and view the beautiful artwork she has created for her children’s book. She will also give a sneak preview of her next book which will be out soon!
A Basket Weaving Workshop with Maureen Quale will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18. Guests will learn the timeless art of basket weaving in this single evening beginner class and will create a “Cookies for Two” basket, a mini market-style basket. Several accent colors will be available to make this keepsake truly one of a kind. Baskets can be used in the kitchen to store counter clutter or in the bathroom with special soaps, potpourri or fingertip towels. Use your imagination! The cost of this class is $35.
Wet Felted Flower class with fiber artist Suzanne O’Brien is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 25. In only two hours you will learn the almost magical process of wet felting, starting with soft wool and transforming it into a beautiful felt flower decoration just by using warm water and soap. Prepare to be amazed! Please bring a plastic shopping bag to carry your wet project home. The cost is $40.
