Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery readies for upcoming exhibits and classes

Students from the Academy for the Visual Arts at both West Seneca East and West highs schools will exhibit their talents during the “Create It!” exhibit at Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery, 1168 Orchard Park Road, West Seneca. The student exhibit showcases a variety of media, creativity and discipline. An opening reception will take place at the gallery from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 3, and the exhibit will remain on display through March 4.

A collector’s basket class with weaver Maureen Quale will take place from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 18, 25 and March 11. The collector is a large basket with a 10-inch solid wood base. Weaving includes triple twining, double lashed. The top opening is approximately 13 inches, with a height of 12 to 13 inches. This basket is beautiful and will hold books, magazines, towels and more. The cost is $60 and all supplies are included.

Beginners and experienced artists alike are invited to participate in a painting in acrylics class with artist Bernice Smith. Classes will be offered from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evenings, Feb. 21, 28, March 7 and 14. The cost is $80 and a supply list can be found on the gallery’s website.

A Black Magic with Black Zentangle Tiles class with artist Kelly Barone will be offered from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 23. Come learn a fantastic new technique for working with black Zentangle tiles. Using colored pencils, participants will learn to layer in fun and interesting ways. This class is suitable for Zentangle beginners and the cost is $35.

The gallery has issued a call for artists for its March exhibit, “Nature Meets Art.” Artists of all mediums may submit two pieces of artwork exhibiting a call to nature. The cost is $25 per artist and drop-off dates are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 3 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 4. A prospectus is available on the gallery’s website.

Enjoy the Journey has exhibition space available for artists looking for a month-long art exhibit in 2017. The package includes three rooms with 71 linear feet of space, advertising, a reception and more. Please call the gallery at 675-0204 for details.
