Feeling good is fun this holiday season

As we begin plotting out trips through the decorated aisles of our favorite stores this holiday season, many of us are stumped. As adults it can be difficult to satisfy desires for a glorious, eye-popping, brand new addition to one’s treasure chest combined with our longing to educate and create a healthy environment. A Buffalo native and brand new author to the children’s book scene has done just that!

Stop Calling Me That! My Name Is Araminta, written by Virginia A. Batchelor a professor of Education at Medaille College, tells a heartfelt story of a young lady distraught from being called names at school.

Teaching young minds that experiencing pain is a part of life, but is not the end of the world, can be difficult. I am sure most of us can remember a time when we felt excluded from peers while growing up. As so much around us continues to change, a child’s struggle to fit in remains the same.

In the book, Araminta finds peace through the wisdom conveyed from her cherished grandmother. She acquires courage and self-assurance from learning of her roots in Buffalo, New York, and a strong family connection to one of the most historical figures of all time!

So as you begin making your shopping list — remember feeling good is fun! And providing one teachable moment can last a lifetime!

Have a healthy day!
