Mount Mercy Academy recently held Foreign Language Week. The week featured various events such as informative presentations about several foreign countries; recitation of a morning prayer in different languages such as Mandarin, Bulgarian, Spanish, Arabic and French; and fun games during lunch.
The Languages other than English Department, led by teachers Mary Taravella and Veronica Pitre, also hosted an International Dinner. Students prepared foods that represented their heritage and culture and spoke about the foods. There were approximately 10 different cultures represented, such as Irish, Polish, Chinese, Hispanic and Italian. Junior Brogan Maloney of Lackawanna stated, “It was an interesting and fun way to learn and experience different cultures.”
The week culminated with a visit from Sarah Haykel of Love is Real, LLC, Salsa for the Soul who demonstrated some Latin dances for the student body and then invited the students to participate in the dances as she led them through the steps.
Additionally, the Mount Mercy Academy Women in Social Sciences Academy recently visited and toured the Darwin Martin House in Buffalo, designed by acclaimed architect Frank Lloyd Wright!
