The Buffalo History Museum invites the community to a powerful and immersive living history program on Friday, April 17, featuring acclaimed interpreter Nathan M. Richardson as Frederick Douglass.
Through a compelling first-person portrayal, Richardson brings Douglass’ voice and legacy to life, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience American democracy through the words of one of its most influential advocates. This engaging presentation explores Douglass’ enduring fight for freedom, justice, and equality — issues that remain deeply relevant today.
The program will highlight Douglass’ relationships with prominent historical figures, including women’s rights leader Susan B. Anthony, abolitionist Harriet Tubman, and publisher William Lloyd Garrison. It will also examine his interactions with U.S. presidents and his significant connections to Buffalo and Western New York — an often-overlooked chapter of his life and influence.
This dynamic program invites attendees to reflect on the meaning of democracy, civic responsibility, and the ongoing pursuit of equality in America. Following the performance, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a live Q&A session with Richardson.
