The Western New York Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will hold an educational program in Cheektowaga on common safety concerns for people living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
The free program, “Safety Considerations,” will take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, at the Cheektowaga Senior Center, located at 3349 Broadway, Cheektowaga.
“We held this program during the day in April and it was very well-received, so we decided to repeat it in the evening so more people could learn measures to improve the safety of loved ones living with dementia,” says Chelsea Torgalski, program manager at the WNY Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. “We want families to feel confident in their ability to provide care in their home, prevent injuries and prepare for incidents of wandering.”
Facilitators will discuss the most common safety concerns, including driving, getting lost/wandering, and home safety, and the free safety resources available through the WNY Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
