Full summer season kickoff planned at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, located at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road in Amherst, is proud to announce a full May calendar celebrating the season opening!

Free Farmstead Thursdays, made possible through funding by M&T Bank, will begin Thursday, May 4. Admission is free for all to enjoy from 4 to 8 p.m. and offers visitors access to family-friendly educational programming, demonstrations by costumed historic interpreters, guided tours of the historic village and farmstead, and 20,000 square feet of curated exhibit space. Free Farmstead Thursdays run May through August.

The Amherst Women’s Interclub Council is excited to announce the 2017 Kentucky Derby Luncheon, being held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village. The luncheon will feature a hat fashion show and sale by Pamela, Inc., as well as basket raffles. Lunch will be catered by Banchetti by Rizzo’s, and guests are encouraged to don their most fabulous hats for the occasion. This year’s event will honor Joan Weichmann and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Getzville Fire Company. Tickets for the Kentucky Derby Luncheon are $30. Reservations are required and will be accepted until April 21. All proceeds from the event will benefit the museum’s historic buildings.

On Thursday, May 11, BNHV will host its Annual Meeting and Open House from 6 to 9 p.m. Brief guided tours will be offered at 6:15 and 6:30 p.m, with a report to the community at 7 p.m. Meet BNHV’s staff, Board of Trustees, Guild Members and volunteers, and learn how to get involved. Learn more about the 2017 educational offerings and special events; becoming a member, volunteer and/or sponsor; and joining one of BNHV’s Artisan Guilds. Light refreshments to be served and admission is free.

A Historical Fashion Show in the BNHV Ballroom on Saturday, May 20, from 2 to 3 p.m. will feature fashions by Aimee’s Victorian Armoire, accompanied by a lecture on 19th century women’s fashions by historical seamstress Aimee Cook. All are welcome and general admission rates apply.
