Some pups handle shelter life with ease at the SPCA of Niagara, and others are simply too sad to cope. That’s the case for poor Chicklet who can’t seem to get over her broken heart.
“She’s been with us for awhile and she’s become very stressed at the shelter,” said Pat McMahon, volunteer at the SPCA. “I sit with her by her crate and talk to her and I can see how sad she is.”
Chicklet is a 3-year-old terrier mix with a heart full of gold. She loves to squint her eyes when she smiles so she can hear you say how cute she is. She also loves to relax next to people and take in the happiness she feels when she is with someone who cares. Her favorite thing to do is chew bones, but what she would really enjoy is having a home to call her own.
“She’s more sad than most of them,” said McMahon. “Some seem to cope better in this situation and she’s not dealing with it well. She needs to be with someone in a home, with a family that can love her unconditionally.”
But who can blame poor Chicklet for being sad? She was brought into the SPCA as a stray in October and five months later she still doesn’t have a home. Volunteers just don’t seem to understand why because Chicklet is truly such a love. She would make a great companion for any person or family.
“If you look at her picture, her smile describes her perfectly. She’s very friendly, lovable and cuddly. Someone just needs to give her a chance to show her what a perfect dog she is,” said McMahon.
Chicklet would be best in a home with no other dogs or small children. She’s an exuberant girl who enjoys hugs and kisses from her human friends. If you are interested in putting a smile on Chicklet’s face again, please call the SPCA of Niagara at 731-4368 to schedule a meet and greet.
