Jackie Albarella focuses newest book on sons and their mothers

Apr 6, 2024 | Events

Jackie Albarella is well known throughout Western New York, and beyond, as an author, garden expert, and award-winning broadcaster. Yet ask the accomplished professional to describe her career, and she offers one word: “Storyteller.” That fact is abundantly clear with the upcoming publication of her sixth book, Sons & Their Mothers. Albarella notes her inspiration for this collection of stories was sparked by one of her previous projects.

“At the launch of my book, Inspiring Women of WNY, the keynote speaker talked about his mother in a way that clearly touched the audience, which was comprised primarily of women,” Albarella stated. “That speech and the audience’s reaction stayed with me and inspired me to want to explore the unique relationships between sons and mothers. I started reaching out to various men I knew, or who were recommended to me, and began an amazing journey of learning their personal stories and memories of their relationships with their moms. Each man’s story is different, yet each one reinforces the bond that is unbreakable between a son and his mother. I believe readers will find the stories full of hope, humor, and heartwarming memories.

Albarella will launch Sons and Their Mothers during a presentation and book signing at the Burchfield Penney Art Center at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited so free tickets must be reserved (https://bit.ly/BRSons.)

Nationally recognized writer, entrepreneur, and business owner John R. Osborn notes that the style and varied storylines of Albarella’s book make it a compelling read.

“This book has a breadth of different and diverse experiences, and a range of mother-son experiences, which was my hope as the spectrum of relationships, let alone parent-child relationships, is so broad. Jackie’s writing style is inquisitive, reportorial and lets her subjects of sons and their moms shine in description and examples. Her curiosity and gift for writing bring each one of them alive, story by story.”

Sons and Their Mothers will be available for purchase at the April 13 Burchfield Penney Art Center book launch/signing.
