A century of landscaping, soil and mulch services will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 14 as JF Krantz Topsoil & Nursery welcomes customers old and new to their 665 River Road location in North Tonawanda.
The company was founded by Jacob F. Krantz, John J. Krantz’s grandfather, in 1924 and has operated successfully for 10 decades.
“We have had such a great run in the landscaping and grounds business and so we would like to kick off our second hundred years by throwing a party for our loyal friends, employees and customers,” remarks John J. Krantz, the company owner and president.
JF Krantz Topsoil & Nursery features bulk topsoil and mulch in various blends. They also offer sand and stone products for multiple landscaping projects; their popular “Mr. K’s Garden Blend” topsoil has been offered for 90 years and is known for its superior quality in producing fruits, vegetables and flowers.
The company also does residential and commercial landscaping, commercial property management and commercial snow removal. JF Krantz has received numerous awards including the New York State Landscape Award, voted “most creative landscape award,” Lifestyles People’s Choice Award, and “best of show” landscape design.
The festivities begin at 11 a.m. with free barbecue from J&J Barbecue, free ice cream cones, a prize wheel and kids’ entertainment. President John J. Krantz, his father John J. Krantz, the patriarch of the company, and Mayor Austin Tylec will be greeting customers and giving brief remarks about the company’s premiere status in North Tonawanda’s Western New York history. The 100th anniversary celebration will conclude at 3 p.m.
A special of one free yard of natural mulch or topsoil when a customer buys two yards will be in effect for JF Krantz’s 100th anniversary. Also, 10% off of topsoil, 50/50 organic blend, Mr. K’s Blend, compost and mulch products. Details will be at the 665 River Road location.
The company continues its family ownership with President John J. Krantz’s son, Jacob Krantz, and his brother Gabriel extending the legacy and Zachary Krantz (Jacob’s son), already established as a principal employee at the business.
Buffalo Bills legend Lou Piccone will be signing autographs and chatting with the crowd starting at about 1 p.m. Piccone played as wide receiver and punt returner for the team for seven years.
