The Kavinoky Theatre, a professional theatre on the campus of D’Youville College, celebrates its 40th anniversary season with the smash hit musical comedy Hairspray.
It’s 1962 Baltimore and plus-sized teenager Tracy Turnblad has one dream: to dance on The Corny Collins Show. When the African-American students teach her some of their dance moves, Tracy transforms into a star, using her newfound fame to advocate for racial integration on the TV show. This hit musical’s beautiful message of acceptance and progress teaches us all to look past the color of one’s skin and fight for the equal rights of every human being.
Director/Choreographer Carlos A. R. Jones has assembled a cast of some of Buffalo’s finest musical theatre talent: Maeghan McDonald stars as Tracy, Bill Lovern as Edna, John Fredo as Wilbur, Natalie Slipko as Velma, Cassidy Kreuzer as Amber, Jamil Kassem-Lopez as Link, Arin Lee Dandes as Penny, Anne DeFazio as Prudy, Brian Brown as Seaweed, Lorenzo Shawn Parnell as Motormouth, Cecelia Monica-Lyn as Little Inez, Marc Sacco as Corny Collins, Kevin Kennedy as Mr. Pinky and others.
