London, Ontario’s beloved free-admission celebration of life and community is back for its 29th edition in Victoria Park, with over 40 top international and national music and dance ensembles and more than 200 eclectic food, craft and visual art exhibitors. Among the latter are Rosa’s (Caribbean) Tree of Life, Taste of Lebanon, Curry’s (East Indian cuisine), Gilligan’s Juice Bar, Inca Imports, Tibetan Arts, Pure Soaps and Happy Bee (honey).
With all these diverse offerings, TD Sunfest, July 6-9, once again will be a truly immersive experience for its visitors, a sun-splashed weekend where irresistible rhythms, exquisite tastes and sweet aromas combine to create the perfect summertime vibe!
As always, the talent on TD Sunfest’s two main stages and three side stages is unmatched, ranging from special Ukrainian ambassadors DakhaBrakha to Belize’s iconic The Garifuna Collective and Italy’s keepers of the ancient pizzica tarantata dance ritual, Kalàscima. Latin America and the African diaspora are well represented this year, but there are also outstanding global music and jazz groups from Armenia, Denmark, France, Italy, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Sweden/Estonia, Ukraine and, of course, Canada.
If you’re looking for something a little different, try Poland’s Hańba (a 1930s punk revival, anyone?); France’s Les Mécanos (male a cappella with nifty scrap metal percussion); and Winnipeg, Canada’s The Mariachi Ghost (the golden age of Mexican crooning on a perpetual Day of the Dead).
Sizzling new global beats that will have you dancing the night away include bambucobeat (Colombia’s Bejuco), Armo-Beat (Armenia’s JINJ) and a secret dance floor elixir from Jupiter & Okwess (Democratic Republic of Congo). And yes, longtime TD Sunfest favorites Lazo and Five Alarm Funk are also part of the 2023 mix!
The driving distance between Buffalo and London, Ontario is just 144 miles (just short of a 2-1/2-hour trip), making TD Sunfest the perfect summer getaway weekend. DoubleTree by Hilton London is the festival’s official hotel. A four-star facility, it is located only three blocks from Victoria Park.
