Monkey See, Monkey Do Children’s Bookstore announces summer camps

Monkey See, Monkey Do Children’s Bookstore, the little bookstore with big ideas, has announced an extensive list of summer camps taking place at the bookstore, located at 9060 Main St., Clarence. All camps feature Interactive story readings; read-alouds and/or literacy circles; critical thinking and logic; ELA, math and art activities; as well as imaginative play and games.

Following is a description of each camp. Camps are offered from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 3 p.m.

JUNE 18-22: PRINCESS POWER
AM: Princess Manners Academy: What makes a princess polite? Join us for princess stories, table etiquette and manners, curtsies and other princess activities along with a special tea party and guest appearance! Ages: 3-1⁄2+ Instructor: Kim Krug

JUNE 25-29: MAGIC MERMAIDS & WIZARDS
AM: Mermaid Tales: Swim with MerGirls Shelly, Kiki, Pearl and Echo as they explore their underwater world. Learn what it’s like to live under the sea through creative stories and fun activities about mermaid friendships and adventures. Ages 5+ Instructor: Colleen Adams

PM: Hogwarts Academy: Calling all young witches and wizards! Hogwarts Academy is a fun week of magical activities and crafts sure to excite any Harry Potter fan. Ages 6+ Instructor: Julie Bastedo

JULY 9-13: EXPLORE NATURE, GARDENING & MINDFULNESS
AM: Nature Play, Mindfulness & Organic Gardening Camp: Discover the joy in doing creative nature play, share mindful moments using your senses, and learn how to work in soil as an organic gardener! Children need to be prepared to share time outdoors at the MSMD Bookstore. Ages: 4+ Instructors: Patty Hull & Dave Bauer

PM: Imagine 2018 Author/Book Study: Children will explore nature, the outdoors and using their imagination featuring book titles by Imagine 2018 Expo authors Jennifer Ward and Sarah Thomson. Art, science and writing projects will focus on topics found throughout their books. Ages: 5+ Instructor: Kari Webster

JULY 16-21: FAIRIES, FANTASY & FICTION
AM: Imagine 2018 Author Study: The Wish Fairy by Lisa Scott: How do you become an author? Find out from Scholastic’s Wish Fairy author Lisa Ann Scott! Create your own story, make two crafts each day, then attend the magical Fairy Ball at the end of camp! Ages 5+ Instructor: Lisa Scott

PM: Fairy Art Camp: Did you know that there are different kinds of fairies? Campers will discover a new type of fairy every day through engaging story time and a fun art project. Join us for a week of everything fairy! Ages 5+ Instructor: Kelly Harvey

JULY 23-27: ART & MAKERS LAB
AM: Dr. Seuss Art Camp: Enter the magical and inventive world of Dr. Seuss. Campers will take inspiration from his classic storybooks for a week of art-making and imagination. Ages: 3-1⁄2+ Instructor: Brittany Rauscher

PM: Makers Lab Camp: It’s a camp where art and science meet! From slime to DNA sculptures, to bridges and drawing machines, this camp is perfect for the tinkers and creatives. Ages 5+ Instructor: Brittany Rauscher

JULY 30 – AUGUST 3: ANIMAL ART & FRIENDSHIP FUN
AM: Art Safari: Using beautifully illustrated books as our guide, the children will travel the world to discover fascinating animals to create as they explore a variety of techniques and media. Art Supply Fee: $5/day. Ages 5+ Instructor: Linda Dugan

PM: Elephant & Piggie: Elephant and Piggie know all about how to be good friends. As we meet new friends at camp, we’ll read stories and practice telling our own. We’ll do art projects and activities that help us remember that manners, sharing and kindness help make good friends, and what make life more fun! Ages 4+ Instructor: Annie Bodensteiner

AUGUST 6-10: INVENTERS, ARCHITECTS & CHANGE-MAKERS
AM: Inventors & Architects: Like buildings? Like inventing? This camp has both! Campers will learn about famous inventors, identify famous buildings and of course design and make their own. Ages 5+ Instructor: Brittany Rauscher

PM: Be A Change-Maker: What does it mean to be a “changemaker?” Campers will learn about some of the visionaries, humanitarians and innovators who have inspired and facilitated positive change in our world. They will not only learn from these historic figures by also engage in daily projects that promote peace, justice and positive change. Ages 5+ Instructor: Kelly Harvey

AUGUST 13-17: PRINCESS MAGIC! 

AM: Princess in Black – Mysterious Playdate: Join us for a week of fun as we read the latest story of the Princess in Black. We’ll learn all about how everything can be a little better with the help of a friend as we read, write and play. We’ll make a picture story of our favorite playdate, play games and do outdoor activities that require teamwork! Ages: 5+ Instructor: Annie Bodensteiner

PM: Magic Tree House: Pack your bags for mystery-solving adventures through time and space with Jack and Annie! Campers will embark on one magical mission a day and engage in book discussions, art projects and fun STEM- focused activities. Ages 5+ Instructor: Kelly Harvey

AUGUST 20-24: UNICORNS, MAGICAL CREATURES & ENCHANTED PONIES
AM: Razzle Dazzle Unicorns & Magical Creatures Art Camp: Inspired by the enchanting artwork found in books, children will use their imagination to create their own magical creatures using a variety of techniques and media. Art Supply Fee: $5/day. Ages: 5+ Instructor: Linda Dugan

PM: Imagine 2018 Author – Enchanted Pony Academy: How does an idea become a book? Read and write with Lisa Ann Scott, local author of Scholastic’s Enchanted Pony Academy series. Write your own story, make two crafts each day and celebrate the end of camp with a Magic Pony Party! Ages 5+ Instructor: Lisa Scott

AUGUST 27-31: PUPPY POWER!
AM: Biscuit & Paw Patrol: The popular, funny and heartwarming stories of Biscuit and the strong, brave puppies of Paw Patrol will also be included in this fun, busy week dedicated to our furry friends. Enjoy these endearing books and meet author Alyssa Satin Capucilli at the 2018 WNY Children’s Book Expo this November. Ages 5+ Instructor: Colleen Adams

ABC, 123, COLOR ME MONKEY PRE-K ENRICHMENT
8-weeks (July 9 – August 27), Mondays 10-11 a.m. Price: $65/child, $12/jump-in. Children will work on fundamental learning skills through story readings. The alphabet, counting and basic literacy skills are reinforced each week. Ages 3+ Instructor: Annie Bodensteiner

101 BOOKS YOU SHOULD READ
Wednesdays 9-9:30 a.m., July 11 – August 15. Join us for a free story reading and craft each week. Best suited for ages 3-1⁄2+.

3-DAY BACKYARD NATURE PLAY BY DAVID BAUER
June 26-28, 10-11:30 a.m., Price: $60/session or $25/day; Ages 4+. This three-part nature play series will include:
Hideout for Trolls: Create your own troll hideout! Gather all the miniature “nature loose parts” you can find to create a mini home and village for the local trolls! Recommended to work in teams or pairs.
Water Wonders: Learn about the water cycle! Draw a nature image with water and foam brush on a hot day. What happens? If it’s early in the morning, go for a walk with your bare feet and learn about the dew.
Discover Our Living Soil: Build your own compost bin! Learn how to make them, why they are important and where soil comes from! Get your hands dirty and feel the wiggle of the worms in live compost.
