Mount Mercy Academy recently held an Athletics Honors Assembly. Included in the assembly was the recognition and honoring of all athletes. Members of the teams received their letters and pins, as well as special awards for scholar-athletes, Most Valuable and Most Improved Athletes and the Coach’s Award winners.
Athletic Director Siobhan Gould presented special awards to the Most Valuable Athletes, the athlete that the coach felt the team contributed the most to the team’s success; the Coach’s award which is given to the athlete who exhibits the best effort, attitude, dedication and team spirit; and the Most Improved Athlete which is given to the girl whose skills progress the most throughout the course of the season.
Sophomore Ellie Godsoe (Buffalo) was the Most Valuable Runner on the cross country team, senior Megan Jozwiak (Springville) earned the Coach’s Award and senior Rheanna Welsh (Lackawanna) was the Most Improved.
Seniors Kate Ryan (Buffalo) and Olivia Jarosz (West Seneca), All-Catholic selections, shared the Most Valuable Player on the varsity volleyball team and senior Hannah Fredo (Buffalo) garnered the Coach’s Award.
Senior First Team All-Catholic Gianna Lauciello (Orchard Park) was the Most Valuable Player on the soccer team and senior Emily Kessler (West Seneca) won the Coach’s Award. Sophomore Madelyn Hart (Buffalo) was named the Most Improved.
Freshman Addison Barth (Hamburg) was the Most Valuable golfer, senior Katie Bednarz (Buffalo) won the Coach’s Award and senior Olivia Radwan (West Seneca) was named the Most Improved.
The Coach’s Award for cheerleading was shared by seniors Anani Debose and Janiah Ball of Buffalo. Freshman Andra’nique Hudson of Buffalo earned the Most Improved Award.
Freshman Lacey Sheehan (Orchard Park) was named the Most Valuable Player, while the Coach’s Award was given to freshman Quinn D’Anthony (Buffalo) and the Most Improved was freshman Meghan Balen (Cheektowaga) for JV Volleyball.
Fredo, a First Team All-Catholic pick, was awarded Most Valuable Player on the varsity basketball team. Senior Cecilia Strang (Westfield) was given the Coach’s Award and junior Mya Wood (Blasdell) was named the Most Improved.
The Most Valuable Athletes for track were awarded to senior Megan Reilly (Buffalo) for field events and Welsh for track events. Senior Angelina Larivey (Lackawanna) was the recipient of the Coach’s Award.
Barth was the Most Valuable Athlete on the tennis team. The Coach’s Award was given to junior Mara Santana (Buffalo) and junior Mary Bea Lalley (Buffalo) was the Most Improved Athlete.
Freshman pitcher Emma Caughel (Hamburg) was the Most Valuable Player for the softball team. Sophomore Trinity Kehoe (Derby) and freshman Emma Labby (Lakeview) shared the Most Improved Player Award.
Sophomore goalie Jenna Brown (Buffalo) was named the Most Valuable Athlete on the lacrosse team. Senior Megan Quinn (Hamburg) was honored with the Coach’s Award and freshman Maggie Melligan (Buffalo) was tabbed as the Most Improved Player.
