Apr 10, 2023 | Lifestyles

The McAuley Chapter of National Honor Society (NHS) at Mount Mercy Academy hosted its annual induction in the Mercy Center Auditorium on March 28. Fifteen new junior members were inducted, joining 22 seniors who were previously inducted.

Membership in the National Honor Society is based on excellence in knowledge, scholarship, leadership, service and character. The National Honor Society was started in 1921 and there are over 20,000 chapters worldwide.

The senior NHS members who were installed previously explained the history of National Honor Society and described what the five pillars of NHS mean. Co-moderator Douglas Webster presented the candidates for membership and Head of School Michele Melligan draped the NHS stoles on the inductees, while co-moderator Patrick Govern presented the inductees with their membership certificates.

Four Buffalo residents, Charli Debose, Maura Higgins, Amelia Lalley and Isabella Shea, were inducted into the McAuley Chapter of NHS. Addison Barth, Quinn Callahan, Emma Labby, Vayana Stoyanova, Caroline Tucker and Avery Walker of the Hamburg area were also installed as new members of NHS. West Seneca residents Rosalie Bandura and Jayla Goodman, Orchard Park resident Lacey Sheehan, Lackawanna resident Brogan Maloney and Rylee Strefler of Dunkirk were also inducted into National Honor Society.
