Mount Mercy Academy, under the leadership of senior Julia Khoury with assistance from sophomore Olivia Larson and Campus Minister Mary Colby, recently held a fundraising drive for the Make LemonAide Foundation. The foundation supports research, care and treatment of those with Cerebral Palsy.
Mount Mercy was honored to have Lauren Wallier, founder of the Make LemonAide Foundation, speak to the student body. Her inspiring message reminded us of how we are all alike on the inside and should wear glasses that allow us to see the beauty in everyone.
The fundraising efforts included selling paper lemons for $1, a bake sale, basket raffle and a dress down day. The efforts netted almost $1,400. A special thank you goes to the Make LemonAide Foundation and Imagine Salon and Spa for the basket donations.
Mount Mercy Principal Margaret Staszak was proud of her students. “Once again, Mount Mercy students have demonstrated their altruism and commitment to helping others. Not only have they been extremely generous in donating to the LemonAide project, a foundation dedicated to providing therapies and support to persons with cerebral palsy, but they have embraced and empathized with their friend and classmate whose family is directly affected by CP. I am proud of our students and the wonderful outcome of this student driven project.”
