Mount Mercy Academy’s Mia Mahar (Lakeview) recently was awarded “Best in Show” at Daemen College’s 51st annual All-High Art Exhibition. Mahar, a student of Jacqueline Welch, Mount Mercy’s art teacher and an award-winning artist, won with her charcoal drawing titled “Self-Portrait with Dogs.”
Mahar is the first Mount Mercy student to win this prestigious competition. She was also awarded a four-year renewable partial scholarship if she attends and majors in art.
“Mia is a really hard-working student. She does everything that she needs to do in order to succeed,” Welch commented. “She is very receptive and responsive to constructive criticism.”
Mahar, an Advanced Placement art student, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mahar of Lakeview.
