I’ve Decided to Love Myself, a book of poetry by Lackawanna’s Iman Mohsin Abuhamra, was recently released by NFB Publishing in Buffalo.
“Life as a child was not always sunshine, lollipops and rainbows — some days were cloudy, scary and sad, but I always stood tall smiling the pain away,” said the author. “The older I got, I began to keep journals — writing down my heavy emotions and feelings that I couldn’t quite express or explain, but I knew if I wrote it would be validated and seen. I fell in love with poetry, and as I write I am able to connect with people and help them see clearly through their emotions. I am able to give advice nevertheless, allowing for them to be heard and not feel alone, which is something I so desperately longed for as a child.
“Your relationship with yourself affects all the others, so I’ve decided to love myself.”
I’ve Decided to Love Myself is a collective work of emotions and feelings through tough times, in search of validation, strength and hope. Written eloquently in poetry with the realization that you are never truly going through it alone, it will move your feelings and tugs at the heart.
