When the curtain rises for the Red Blazers Men’s Chorus Varieties Show in April, it will mark a celebration of musical entertainment 75 years in the making! The highly anticipated engagements will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21, in the Sweet Home Middle School auditorium, 4150 Maple Road, Amherst.
“While all of our shows hold special meaning to both our chorus and audience members, I can honestly say that celebrating our 75th anniversary of musical performances in Western New York brings an added element of excitement to our upcoming shows,” said Musical Director Brett Ransom. “The key to our longevity and ongoing success has always been the unwavering commitment and dedication of our singers, volunteers and musicians, and I can assure you that they realize the significance of this milestone and can’t wait to showcase their talents at our upcoming events.”
The April shows will feature a wide variety of music and genres, including songs from Hamilton, Annie and Les Miserables; music from Justin Timberlake, Hall & Oates, Styx and Cold Play; and several unique pieces and fan favorites that have been performed many times over the group’s 75-year existence.
Formerly known as the Amherst Male Glee Club, the organization was founded in 1948 when eight men gathered in the music room at Amherst Central High School for their very first practice. Over the years, the group has grown and thrived under the musical direction of just two men, Ransom, who took the helm in 2006, and Walter Reitz, who led the organization’s musical direction from 1948 until 2006.

“We anticipate the return of many our our alumni and out-of-town guests for these special 75th anniversary shows, so I would suggest that our fans purchase their tickets as soon as possible to avoid being disappointed,” added Ransom. “This moment has been building for 75 years, and our dedicated members promise to leave it all on the stage. The performances will be memorable for a number of reasons.”
