The Rural Outreach Center (ROC), a nonprofit organization offering a wide variety of social services for those living in Western New York’s rural communities, will host two upcoming workshops titled Navigating the Department of Social Services and Know Your Housing Rights. The workshops will take place at the ROC, located at 730 Olean Road, East Aurora.
Offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, Navigating the Department of Social Services will focus on the government website mybenefits.ny.gov. Participants will learn how to sign up for an account, navigate the website, apply for SNAP and/or HEAP, and how to re-certify benefits once you are approved via this website. Applying for assistance this way is the fastest and easiest method for most individuals, especially those living in rural areas.
Know Your Housing Rights will be offered by the ROC and the WNY Law Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28. Child care and pizza will be supplied and topics will include tenants’ rights, eviction, habitability issues and who to call with complaints.
