SPCA Pet Food Pantry faces triple the demand as community need grows

Nov 19, 2025 | Events

The SPCA is committed to ensuring that no pet is surrendered or rehomed because of financial hardship.

The SPCA Serving Erie County’s Pet Food Pantry, part of the organization’s expanded efforts to help pets in their loving homes, has seen demand nearly triple. Once providing approximately 20,000 dog and cat meals per month, the need has now surpassed 60,000 meals monthly — and continues to grow.

To meet this critical need, this Friday, Nov. 21, the SPCA is hosting a pop-up Pack the Pet Food Pantry event sponsored by Lumsden McCormick CPA. The event is designed to support local pet owners struggling to provide for their pets, ensuring they can remain part of the families who love them.

Ways to donate pet food during Pack the Pet Food Pantry:

The SPCA Pet Food Pantry accepts all food and pet supply donations, including litter, crates, collars, leashes, and more, year-round. Normally, opened bags of food are accepted, but for this event, the greatest need is new, unopened, unexpired dry dog and cat food, along with other pet-related supplies.

Special incentive: The first 100 people who come to the SPCA in person this Friday with a new, unopened 15 lb. (or larger) bag of dry dog or cat food will have the opportunity to receive a pair of tickets (while supplies last) to the December premiere of the movie partially filmed at the SPCA’s West Seneca location. Hybrid Productions’ A Royal Christmas Tail airs on Great American Family on Dec. 14, with a local screening on Dec. 12. To learn how to secure a voucher for this offer while supplies last, please visit YourSPCA.org/PackThePantry.

“Many families in our own community are struggling to make ends meet, and the SPCA is committed to ensuring that no pet is surrendered or rehomed because of financial hardship,” says SPCA Director of Outreach and Safety Net Services Amy Jaworski. “The Pet Food Pantry is a lifeline, helping these pet owners through uncertain times. This event allows us to come together as a community to help our own neighbors make it through these trying months without losing the steady companionship and love of their pets.”
