Mount Mercy Academy has several activities planned for the grammar school aged females of the area. The school is hosting a spring open house, a practice entrance exam for seventh grade girls and its annual summer activities, the basketball camp and Camp Mercy.
An open house for seventh and eighth grade girls, as well as any high school students interested in transferring, will be held on Wednesday, April 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be guided tours of the school, an opportunity to meet faculty and staff, and visitors will learn about Mount Mercy’s exciting programs and strong tradition of academic excellence. The school’s financial aid director, guidance counselors and admissions director will also be present to answer any questions about enrollment or finances. Those interested in attending should register on the school’s website at https://www.mtmercy.org/spring-open-house.
A practice exam for the Entrance and Scholarship Exam will be held on Saturday, May 15 at 9 a.m. The practice exam, which will last approximately three hours, is open to all current seventh grade girls. The practice exam will provide an opportunity for students to familiarize themselves with the exam and its format before taking the actual exam in November. Participants will receive a copy of their exam scores and a full breakdown of their results. The cost of the practice exam is $20 and registrations may be made on the Mount Mercy website at https://www.mtmercy.org/7th-grade-practice-exam.
For those who are searching for fun activities for the summer, Mount Mercy Academy has the answers to that search. This summer Mount Mercy will be hosting a basketball camp and Camp Mercy. Both activities are designed for girls interested in learning skills and having fun.
Mount Mercy’s annual summer basketball camp will return and be held at Mount Mercy from June 28 through July 1. There are two sessions available, dependent on the age of the participant. Each session is 2.5 hours long and features instruction from John Glose, Mount Mercy’s varsity basketball coach and members of Mount Mercy’s varsity team. The session for girls entering fourth, fifth or sixth grade will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and the session for girls entering seventh, eighth or ninth grade will run from noon until 2:30 p.m.
Registration for sessions are limited, guaranteeing individual, personalized instruction in ball handling, transition, shooting, rebounding, shot blocking and defense. Individual improvement drills will be completed each day. The camp will also consist of drills, station work, team concept and scrimmages. The cost of the camp is $80 and includes a T-shirt. Register on the Mount Mercy website at https://www.mtmercy.org/basketball-camp.
The perennial favorite, Camp Mercy, will also return and be held at the school from Aug. 2-6. Girls from third to eighth grade are welcome to attend Camp Mercy. The week will include activities like sports, arts and crafts, games, field trips, and team building. Attendees will have the opportunity to make friends with girls from all across Western New York. Mount Mercy students will serve as camp counselors. Information and registration are available on the Mount Mercy website at https://www.mtmercy.org/campmercy.
