Tax filing season may be months away, but the Southtowns Tax Team is already seeking volunteers who want to serve their community through the AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide program. Tax-Aide focuses on serving older adults living with low to moderate income and helps them secure much-needed tax refunds.
Volunteers are trained, and classes are generally held in November and January for the upcoming tax filing season. The amount of training required depends on the position. Prior experience doing taxes is not necessary, but can be helpful. AARP membership is not required. Volunteers are certified by the IRS.
During tax filing season February through April, the volunteers will assist taxpayers at local sites in the towns of Aurora, West Seneca and Hamburg. For information, call Marie at 716-655-3883, send an email to ml*****@********er.com for details, or apply at www.aarpfoundation.org/taxaidevolunteer.
The time commitment is two days per week during tax season.
