West Seneca Chamber of Commerce earns preservation award

Apr 29, 2022 | Arts & Culture

The West Seneca Chamber of Commerce has been announced as the 2022 winner of the Robert T. Coles Award for Neighborhood Conservation to be presented on May 19 by Preservation Buffalo Niagara.

The Chamber’s application for the newly created Charles Burchfield Gardenville District was selected from many deserving applications. The new tourism district includes nine historic and arts destinations in the Union Road/Clinton Street corridor, and other promotional efforts featuring the Burchfield name. While the project is still in its infancy, its goal is to put West Seneca on the map as an arts tourism destination.

The Robert T. Coles Award for Neighborhood Conservation is given annually to a project designed to protect or promote the preservation of a district or locality. Preservation Buffalo Niagara is the region’s only full-service, professionally staffed preservation organization, empowering Western New York communities to champion historic preservation as a means of creating a more culturally rich, vibrant, affordable and sustainable community.

The awards reception will take place at the Eleanor and Wilson Greatbatch Pavilion of the Darwin Martin House in Buffalo. For more information on the awards, please visit https://preservationbuffaloniagara.org/events/2022-preservation-awards/.

“We are absolutely thrilled to earn this prestigious award, and we share it equally with all of our partners who helped create The Charles Burchfield Gardenville District, including the West Seneca Historical Society, Charles E. Burchfield Nature & Art Center, Town of West Seneca, Charles Burchfield’s Home & Studio, Fourteen Holy Helpers Church, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, The Martha Burchfield Richter Atrium, Senator Patrick Gallivan’s office and Assemblyman Patrick Burke’s office, said Joe Kirchmyer, executive director of the West Seneca  Chamber of Commerce. “We are all on the same page working toward one goal: to promote West Seneca as a legitimate destination for art and history enthusiasts worldwide.”
