West Seneca Rotary Club holding Code Blue Blanket Drive

Jan 5, 2017 | In the News

The West Seneca Rotary Club has teamed up with the West Seneca Food Pantry and local businesses for a West Seneca Rotary Code Blue Blanket Drive.

The West Seneca Rotary Club Code Blue Blanket Drive will be running the entire month of January. Blanket donations can be for new or clean, slightly used blankets.

West Seneca Rotary Club President Ed Bedient offered to have the club do a blanket drive after talking to Mary Lou of the West Seneca Food Pantry during a delivery of fruit. Fruit was purchased and donated from the annual Rotary Holiday Fruit Sale in December. Mary Lou expressed the need for the blankets within our community and the West Seneca Rotary Club is stepping up to help fulfill that need.

Many homeless individuals on the streets suffer through mental illness, lack of warm clothes and can succumb to harsh weather elements very quickly. Code Blue is called when temperatures in Buffalo drop to 32 degrees or lower. The Code Blue organization works with nonprofits such as the West Seneca Food Pantry to help the homeless. The homeless can range from families, veterans to elderly individuals.

Blankets will be collected at the drop-off locations listed below throughout January. Collected blankets will be distributed through the West Seneca Food Pantry and Code Blue Programs.

Drop-off locations include:
• Al-Ross Sports, 2756 Seneca St., West Seneca
• Ebenezer United Church of Christ, 630 Main St., West Seneca, M-F 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., outside bin available any time
• Northwest Bank, 1055 Union Road, West Seneca
• West Seneca Food Pantry, St. David’s Episcopal Church, 51 St. Davids Drive, West Seneca, Tuesdays 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Pick up of blanket donations can be scheduled with Club President Ed Bedient by calling 997-6043 or emailing we**************@gm***.com.
