West Seneca to introduce new town-wide BurchFest event in September

Jun 7, 2023 | Arts & Culture

BurchFest 2023: A Celebration of the Charles Burchfield Family, will take place at numerous West Seneca venues on Saturday, Sept. 23. The town and the West Seneca Chamber of Commerce hope to make this fun-filled celebration of the arts an annual occurrence.

“This is a continuation of our efforts to promote West Seneca as an arts tourism destination while building on the Burchfield family legacy,” said Joe Kirchmyer, executive director of the West Seneca Chamber of Commerce. “While most of the events will take place in The Charles Burchfield Gardenville District in the Union Road – Clinton Street corridor, there will be additional events happening all day long at select West Seneca locations.”

A world-renowned artist, Charles Burchfield lived in West Seneca from 1925 into the 1950s, raising a family with his wife Bertha at their Clinton Street home. Two of their daughters, Martha Burchfield Richter and Catherine Burchfield Parker, were also talented artists who became well-known in the art world. The Burchfield home and Charles’ studio still exist on Clinton Street, just east of Union Road. Charles passed away in 1967 at the age of 73.

While some BurchFest details are still a work in progress and will be announced at a later date, the following can be expected on Sept. 23:
