Rob Wienke knows Western New York’s roadways perhaps better than anyone else. And that certainly makes sense when your “office” is on four wheels.
Wienke celebrated the one-year anniversary of his business — Wink’s Courier Solutions — very quietly. In fact, most days are relatively similar for Rob; he gets into his van and drives. It’s the destinations and the people he interacts with along the way that frequently change and keep his job interesting.
“I’ve been in the delivery business in some way, shape or form for nearly 20 years,” said the North Tonawanda resident who started his working life delivering pizzas in 1998. Today, he specializes in document delivery, job site pick-ups and deliveries, errand services and environmental sample services.
And while some jobs are scheduled well in advance, there are days when he doesn’t know exactly where he is going or what he’s going to deliver until his phone rings.
The requests, from both companies and individual, can vary greatly. Rush jobs are often the norm. And while most deliveries are local, he has been asked to deliver packages to locations such as Erie, Pennsylvania, Corning and Syracuse.
“A lot of my deliveries are printed materials traveling from business to business, law firm to law firm, medical facility to medical facility,” Wienke said. “And then there are some requests that just border on strange, like a brick and a stick that I was recently asked to deliver to someone’s home. I guess the brick was from a historic building, but I’m not sure about the significance of the stick!
“Basically, if your item will fit in one of my vehicles, I’ll personally deliver it quickly and safely to its destination,” he added. “Your packages are my priority.”
One such priority delivery occurred on a recent weekend, when Wink’s Courier Solutions was contacted by a client who needed time-critical samples picked up on a Saturday morning. The samples arrived at their destination, on time, and in perfect condition. What’s more, the client was delighted by Wink’s ability to take on a last-minute request in such a professional manner. “I would definitely recommend Wink’s Courier Solutions to anyone requiring time-sensitive deliveries,” the client shared.
