Seventeen boys from the Buffalo Regals Pee Wee Minor AA are teaming up to support a very special cause. That’s right, the Buffalo Regals are playing to win next month in honor of the Amanda Hansen Foundation.
“We want to raise more awareness for the foundation and help people understand how important it is to be protected against CO poisoning,” said Nicole Roberts, event organizer.
The Amanda Hansen Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supplies CO detectors to those that cannot afford them. In January 2009, Amanda Hansen, a teenager from West Seneca, died from carbon monoxide poisoning from a defective furnace while at a sleepover at a friend’s house. Since her death, Amanda’s parents, Ken and Kim Hansen, have made it their mission to see that no family ever loses a loved one again to this silent killer.
“They’ve really gone above and beyond to help others in the community and now we are here to help them,” said Roberts.
The Buffalo Regals Pee Wee Minor AA team will be playing the Buffalo Bisons at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, at Holiday Twin Rinks, 3465 Broadway St., Cheektowaga. The Buffalo Regals will be wearing purple jerseys in honor of Amanda Hansen and they encourage fans to wear purple when they attend the game as well.
The event will consist of various raffles, and a theme basket raffle that includes Buffalo Sabres items, wine baskets, opera house tickets, movie baskets, and more. There will also be 50/50 tickets available and raffle tickets to win a 40-inch flat screen television. Children are also selling purple beads in the Southtowns with 100 percent of the proceeds going towards the Amanda Hansen Foundation. Everyone is encouraged to attend to cheer on “Team Amanda.”
“The team is really so excited to help get the word out on how dangerous CO poisoning can be,” said Roberts.
Buffalo Regals Pee Wee Minor AA team consists of players from West Seneca, Amherst, Buffalo, Lancaster, Orchard Park, and Hamburg. If you would like more information on this great event or to donate a basket to the hockey benefit, please call Nicole Roberts at 997-9394 or email
