The Kavinoky Theatre, a professional theatre on the campus of D’Youville College, opens its 39th season with the classic musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street by Stephen Sondheim & Hugh Wheeler.
With eight Tony Awards under its belt, Sweeney Todd has become a bloody, dramatic, yet funny musical theatre classic. The infamous tale of the revenge seeking “Demon Barber of Fleet Street” has shocked and awed audiences across the world.
Director John Fredo and Musical Director Alan Paglia have assembled a cast of some of Buffalo’s finest musical theatre talent which includes Matt Witten as Sweeney Todd, Loraine O’Donnell as Mrs. Lovett, Aleks Malejs as the Beggar Woman, and Peter Palmisano as Judge Turpin; with Leah Berst, Anthony Lazzaro, Bill Lovern, Marc Sacco, Charmagne Chi, Kelly Copps, Lucas Denies, Adam Eckmair, Karen Harty, Dudney Joseph, Ben Moran, Bob Mazierski, Derek Moran, and Steve Heatley.
Performances for this four-week engagement (Sept. 7-30) will take place on Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. The gala opening night performance will be held on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and includes a catered wine reception with the cast following the performance. The annual Curtain Up! performance will be on Friday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $45, with discounts available for seniors, students, military and groups.
